10 Cloverfield Lane was a decent movie. It was directed by JJ Abrams, and it stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher, Jr. JJ Abrams decided to use actors who would not be mistaken as box-office stars.
Similar to most of his other works, he uses actors the general public would recognize as supplementary characters in major films. However, he is still able to make use each actors potential to its fullest. Both Goodman and Winstead should a depth that I thought they would not be able to reach. In Goodman's case, his paranoia that he portrayed was phenomenal. In Winstead's case, her displays of terror were excellent. Gallagher, Jr. played his part well, but his performance was overshadowed by the performances of his costars.
The camera work was not as dizzying as the first film, but it was still effective in supplementing the films emotion. Besides that aspect of the film, the score did a good job of amplifying the each important action and scene in the film. However, the switch of genres at the end was strange. The film did a 180 degree turn, and decides to place a very sci-fi twist in the end. It was not awful, but weird. My reactions probably will not change unless I re-watch the film.
Ultimately this film was one of the better films that has been released this season. It definitely deserves to be watched if you are in the mood to watch films. Attached below is the trailer for the film for the film.
